To Do List



Children can trick or treat in Savannah on Monday, Oct. 31. Effingham County also is celebrating Halloween on that day. The Chatham County Commission has designated 6 p.m. as the time for youngsters to start trick-or-treating.

5 p.m. Oct. 31, SCAD Museum of Art, 601 Turner Blvd. “Extinction,” a narrative short by Savannah College of Art and Design film and television professor Kevin McCarey, an Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, will be screened. McCarey will lead a question-and-answer session after the screening. The screening is free and open to the public with paid admission to the museum, which ranges from $5 to $10. The 30-minute film was shot locally, but is set on the coast of South Africa. About 100 SCAD students and professors assisted on the film. 8 p.m. Oct. 28, Muse Arts Warehouse, 703 Louisville Road. The 1979 film is one of the most influential zombie movies ever made. Tickets are $10, which includes candy. Suitable for mature audiences only. For more information and to see a trailer of the film, go to MuseSavannah.org.

8 p.m. Nov. 2, Sentient Bean Coffeehouse, 13 E. Park Ave. The Psychotronic Film Society will present the Euro crime epic “Milano Trema” (“The Violent Professionals”). The 1973 Italian film is an homage to “Dirty Harry” and is in Italian with English subtitles. It is suitable for ages 15 and older. Tickets are $6. 9-11 a.m. Oct. 29, Barnes & Noble, Oglethorpe Mall, 7804 Abercorn Extension. Enjoy activities such as face painting, story time, music and more. There will be special displays of books, toys and other resources for parents, teachers and friends of disabled children and adults. A percentage of purchases will benefit the Nathan’s Something Special Scholarship Fund, a local nonprofit organization committed to inclusion at the college or vocational school level.

5:30-8:30 p.m. Oct. 27, Mansion on Forsyth Park, 700 Drayton St. The “Fall Tour of New Works” by acclaimed artist Jean Claude Roy will be presented by The Kessler Collection’s Grand Bohemian Gallery. Sixty original oil paintings will be featured, and an artist’s reception will be held. Call 912-721-5007 for information.

Oct. 27. Chatham Area Transit is offering free rides to individuals who have scheduled a mammogram on Thursday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Candler Hospital and the Telfair Breast Imaging Center as part of Paint the Town Pink’s fourth annual Mammogram Day. Mammograms will be offered 7:30 a.m.-6 p.m. at Telfair Pavilion at Candler Hospital, 5353 Reynolds St.; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Telfair Breast Imaging Center, 527 Eisenhower Drive; 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, 11705 Mercy Blvd.; and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Mobile Mammography at the St. Joseph’s/Candler Medical Group-Pooler, 105 Grand Central Blvd. To schedule a mammogram, call 912-819-6800. The mammograms are not free, but funding is available through the Telfair Mammography Fund for women who don’t have insurance. Ask about it when you call for an appointment or call 912-819-7055.

7 p.m. Nov. 12, Tybee Post Theater, 10 Van Horn, Tybee Island. Enter today to win the top cash prize of $300, or come to the show and cheer on your favorite contestant. Admission is $10. Bring a small canned ham or other non-perishable item to the show and receive a free Tybee Post Theater koozie. Food will be donated as a special Thanksgiving food drive for Tybee’s Rising Tyde Community Food Pantry.
