Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival Going until October 23rd




The seventh annual Historic Bluffton Arts & Seafood Festival will be held in the charming and eclectic historic district of Bluffton, well known for its quirky art community and natural river beauty. The festival is a week-long event, Sunday through Oct. 23, offering a myriad of activities, showcasing the locally harvested seafood, delicious Lowcountry cuisine, rich history, culture and art of the area and Southern hospitality found only in Bluffton.

The highlight of the festival is the Streetfest which includes a juried fine art show featuring more than 90 artists from 10 different states displaying and selling their art, delicious food provided by the area’s premier restaurants and caterers and great music and entertainment on Oct. 22 and 23.

There will be no parking in downtown Bluffton. Free shuttles will be offered Saturday from 10 a.m.-9 p.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m.

SUNDAY

Boat parade on the May — Blessing of the Fleet

Gospel music — Church of the Cross, 2 p.m.

Pack a picnic lunch and enjoy a special treat with Kim Pelote, a gospel singer who will be accompanied by Lavon Stevens on the bluff or join the parade in your own boat. Make plans now to gather at the sandbar before 1 p.m. and process to the Church of the Cross.

MONDAY

Tour & Oyster Roast at Waddell Mariculture Center, 5:30 p.m.

Reservations are required. $25 per person. Call Mary at 815-2472 or 815-2474.

Al Stokes, Manager/Wildlife Biologist IV, presents a tour of the Waddell Mariculture Center followed by a dinner buffet provided by The Bluffton Oyster Company. Dinner includes oysters, chili, cornbread, tea. Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

TUESDAY

Kayak tours on
the May River

There will be two tours available: An “early bird” tour at 8 a,m, for $20 and a 10 a.m. tour for $25 per person. Price includes kayak and 1 1/2 hour tour around the May River. Anyone who has a kayak and wants to “tag along” can do so for free. There is a 17-person maximum for each tour, so be sure and call 843-684-3296 for reservations.

WEDNESDAY

Author Night with Mary Kay Andrews and Karen White at 6–8 p.m. at Rotary Community Center at Oscar Frazier Park.

Two best-selling Southern authors are highlights on Author Night.

Complimentary hors d’oeuvres & beverages provided; book sale and signing. $5 donation to Port Royal Sound Foundation (formerly Friends of the River) is requested per attendee. Reservations are required: call Mary at 843-815-2472 or 843-815-2474.

THURSDAY

Bluffton 5K Oyster Run kick-off party at the Rotary Community Center, Oscar Frazier Park - 5:30–7:30 p.m.

FRIDAY

Family Night at The Promenade 6-9 p.m.

This festival event offers fun, food, storytelling, movies and activities for the whole family.

$5 donation per family to the Port Royal Foundation (formerly Friends of the Rivers) is requested.

Under Sea books will be read and stories told at Booksdelicious. Sidewalk Chalk Art; Environmental Activities and more for everyone’s enjoyment. Food and drink will be available for purchase at Parrot Cove Ice Cream Café. The featured movie will be shown in the park in front of Parrot Cove Ice Cream Café; BYO lawn chairs or blanket. SATURDAY

Bluffton 5K Oyster Run — 8:30-10 a.m.

Children’s fishing tournament, Bluffton Oyster Co. 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Register between 10-10:30 a.m. at The Oyster Factory. Weigh-In at 2 p.m. at the public dock at Calhoun Street. There is no fee. Prizes will be awarded.

Boat tours on the May River: Interpretive one-hour nature tours at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
