Georgia Southern Alumnus Luke Bryan To Play Benefit Concert

Georgia Southern University alumnus Luke Bryan is giving back to his alma mater. Bryan will donate proceeds from an upcoming concert near the University campus to benefit Georgia Southern scholarships.

The concert is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 5 at the Hurricane Branch Plantation in Claxton, Ga. with opening act Colt Ford. Tickets can be purchased atwww.lukebryan.com.

The concert to benefit Georgia Southern University scholarships is the first in a series of benefit concerts Bryan plans to play throughout his career. Named the Farm Tour, the series of concerts fulfills a dream Bryan has of giving back to charities or organizations in farming communities.

“Being from a rural farming community, the Farm Tour is something I have envisioned for a very long time,” says Bryan. “I love the thought of setting up on a farm and building our own little world, starting small and growing it each time. We can never do enough to bring awareness to the hard working farmers of this country.”

Great American Country (GAC) will film the Top 20 Countdown Show from the Claxton concert. Georgia Southern University students, faculty, staff, alumni and supporters are urged to wear their “True Blue” t-shirts and hats to the show. Like the proceeds from Bryan’s concert, money raised from “True Blue” merchandise goes to benefit Georgia Southern scholarships.

The first-ever Farm Tour show is also the kick-off for Bryan’sDoin’ My Thing album launch where he plans to head to multiple cities in a two week timeframe to meet his fans and play new music. Doin’ My Thing is due in stores October 6.

Bryan had a career making 2008 with two major award nominations including a CMT Breakthrough Video of the Year nomination and his first nomination from the Academy of Country Music for “Best New Male Artist.” He was also chosen as Billboard’s 2007 country artist to watch and landing on “Best of 2007” lists for: Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Journal Constitution, Clear Channel Online Music & Radio to name a few. Bryan has been part of three major tours before this year's Miller Lite tour with some of country music’s biggest artists in 2008 - Kenny Chesney’s “Poets & Pirates” stadium dates, Trace Adkins’ “American Man” tour and Dierks Bentley’s “Throttle Wide Open” tour.
