Events in the area for Veteran's Day

Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar
Invites all veterans and active duty military for a free meal on Thursday. You must have a military or veteran's ID.

Savannah's annual Veterans Day parade
10 a.m. Thursday
Bands, proud members of our military, and veterans will march through downtown Savannah.

Effingham County Veterans Day ceremony
10 a.m. Thursday
Veterans park in Springfield. The program will honor and recognize all veterans and their branches of service.

Beaufort County annual Veterans Day parade
9:30 a.m. Thursday
The grand marshal for this year's parade will be World War II and Purple Heart recipient Robert Waldrop. The Parris Island Marine Corps band will also perform.

Beaufort County's annual Veterans Day ceremony
11 a.m. Thursday at Beaufort National Cemetery
The first veterans art show will be displayed. This year's keynote speaker is Brig. Gen. Frederick Padilla, commander of the Parris Island Marine Corps recruitment depot.

Armstrong Atlantic State University Veterans Day ceremony
11:30 a.m. Thursday AASU Student Union
The AASU color guard will lead the ceremony and WTOC Vice President and General Manager Bill Cathcart will provide remarks. The public is welcome to attend.

Effingham Hospital free prostate cancer screenings
4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. By appointment 912.754.0483 at hospital's Visiting Specialist Center. Health officials recommend that all men age 50 and older have a prostate cancer screening once a year. Men who qualify can get a blood test and physician's exam Thursday at the Effingham Hospital Visiting Specialist Center next the hospital.

Free 2009 income tax preparation for soldiers
Liberty Tax Service in Hinesville
Soldiers who have returned from overseas within the last four weeks, can make an appointment to have their taxes done free on Thursday. To make an appointment, call the Liberty tax office on West Oglethorpe Highway in Hinesville.

Free sandwich coupon at Chick-Fil-A in Pooler

Anyone who makes a donation at this Chick-Fil-A location on Thursday will receive a coupon for a free chicken sandwich. Chick-Fil-A in Pooler is raising money for operation phone home, which provides pre-paid phone cards to deployed service members. Anyone who donates $50 or more will be entered for a chance to win free Chick-Fil-A for a year. All of the money will buy phone cards for soldiers stationed overseas.

Mighty Eighth Airforce Museum

All veterans will be recognized and will receive a special admission rate of $5 to the museum on Thursday. In recognition of Veteran's Day, all veterans and active duty military personnel are invited to have lunch at Miss Sophie's at the Mighty Eighth for half price.

Savannah Extreme Job Makeover
7 p.m. Thursday at Wingate by Wyndham in Port Wentworth
Experts will help job seekers develop personalized marketing strategies. Attendees will also get free haircuts and advice from stylists from savannah's school of cosmetology. The seminar is free and open to the public. No registration necessary.

Chili's restaurant of Hinesville fundraiser to honor fallen heroes

Chili's will donate 10 percent of Thursday's profits to Wreaths for Warriors walk. Their goal is to raise enough money to place a wreath at each memorial tree along warriors walk at Fort Stewart. You will need to present a special coupon at Chili's when you go to pay. Get coupon here. The 4th annual Wreaths for Warriors walk ceremony will take place at 12 p.m. Dec. 11.

Statesboro

Averitt Center for the ArtsStatesboro residents and surrounding communities are invited to the annual Veteran's Day recognition event. There will be live entertainment and local restaurants will offer free meals for veterans. The keynote speaker will be retired Lt. Col. Robert Dannacher of the U.S. Air Force.

Taco Bell restaurants in Savannah, August will raise money to benefit area military families through a two-week fundraiser.
Nov. 10-23
Donations can be made at participating Taco Bell restaurants by purchasing a personalized paper bell or by giving extra change from meal purchases. Donors who give $1 or more also will receive a coupon for one free taco at their next visit, while supplies last.

Arts on the Coast's Visual Artists Reception
